Can I map long-press of a physical key to a function or macro?

Yes, on most devices you can.

 

Tap Menu -> Settings -> Keyboard setup and make sure that the option "Detect long press keys" is enabled before you tap KEYBOARD MAPPING

Now press and hold the key you want to map when pressed for a long time.
